Hello everyone welcome to my page! My name is Jennifer, and I made this page hoping to help anyone I can. I also enjoy writing, and seems to help me relax. I live in Geneva, Illinois, and feel at home here. I am a Security Officer at a retirement community, and although the job is tough, I love every minute of it. I have to see a lot of difficult things, but I always knew I am not the type of person to have a 9-5 job. I graduate in May, and will start applying to be a Correctional Officer. I believe that is my passion, and I cannot wait to get started. I have a dog named Yogi, and he will be mentioned quit a bit on here. He is a six year-old Havanese full of energy and love.
On January 19,2016 I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. For those of you who are unaware of this disease, it is a auto-immune disorder. Also can be known as an Invisible Illness. This effects my colon, leaving ulcers and inflammation occurs. For those who have Crohn’s Disease, that can effect the whole digestive track. Everyone’s Colitis and Crohn’s are different, and one is not worse than the other. Everyone’s body reacts differently, and people can get into remission. Both these diseases have no cure, and can be manageable with medicine (depending on how severe your condition is). I will discuss medicine in another post, but medicine is a huge part of this disease.
Having Ulcerative Colitis has many side effects, and some are caused by the medicine. I have experienced fatigue, weight loss/ weight gain, irritability, moon face, buffalo hump, flares, brain fog, break downs, sadness/anxiety, and of course severe stomach pains. I will discuss each of these in more depth throughout my posts.
I have no control over this disease, and a big part of coping with this is accepting it. I am still pretty new to this, so I am also still learning. I am excited to get started, and I hope that if anyone is also going through this; you have learned to cope with this as best as you can.
